Code Name: Jackalis a nonsensical slog. It's often amusing, but never actually funny, which is not good news for a supposed comedy. There's some truly atrocious moments littered throughout Code Name: Jackal and the twist-heavy narrative descends into a total mess towards the end. I'm not a music fan, so I don't get any of the inside jokes nor do I have much investment in the talent involved. There does appear to be quite a bit of popstar narcissism, but it's masked as self-deprecating modesty which just seems manipulative. The Korean film industry turns out some of the finest cinema in the world, but Code Name: Jackalis a complete waste of time.

Bae Hyeong-jun in his cinematic masterpiss pays homage to trashy western european cinema of the 90s and 2000s. Not only that, but the filmmaker references iconic Korean cinema as well (Lady Vengeance reference for example). This mixture created flashy, unfunny and raunchy "Code Name: Jackal". The plot keeps you on your toes throughout the movie, you will never expect what's coming next. The cast also fit in this absurd atmosphere perfectly. This is a bad and ridicules black comedy about incompetent cops, greedy businessmen, an idol who practically sold his soul and his crazy "fans". Unfunny, raunchy and kinky(?). There's literally no meaning to this movie and it gets lost in its' absurdity, but in no way this was boring.
All of the above I wrote doesn't matter actually, I'm just fucking around and I don't know what I am talking about.
5 stars and a like because Jaejoong is sexy af. I am a simple woman. -

Dungeonskramz Movie Challenge
A K-pop related movieJaejoong of boy group JYJ (and former member of TVXQ) stars in this action comedy as, fittingly enough, a fictional hallyu star. As such, we see the typical industry drama like rude managers and stalker fans, but also an assassin ordered to kill him. I felt like this premise had some decent potential for comedy, but everything started to go downhill from there.
Most notably, the humor in this film is terribly juvenile and repetitive. I'd imagine I only laughed one or two times at most during this, because it made me feel uncomfortable more than anything. Of course, having someone like Jaejoong on board calls for cheap fan service, but without giving…

Review by Film Blitz ★★
For much of its running time, there is a great deal of sitting in hotel rooms, alternating with scenes of creeping about around corridors. The overall feel is more like a Korean take on British farce, and I sense a good deal of cultural stuff may fly over Western viewers’ heads – for instance, Kim actually is a K-Pop superstar, so issues like obsessed fans and record company executives with ulterior motives probably have particular resonance. It’s just too static to work, concentrating for spells on the burgeoning relationship between novice killer and her victim, then drifting off to the cops and their surveillance operation. What should be the key question – who is the Jackal, and what is their…

not even gonna lie, i only watched this because i wanted to see jaejoong tied up and beaten with a belt.
sadly the site i watched was super low quality and the player kept lagging, so a 1h40min movie turned into almost 4h. by the time it ended i had quite a headache, but i wouldn't say it was That bad.
quite an interesting plot considering how jaejoong had to deal with sasaengs stalking him since debut (iirc one even broke into his house in the past), so i admire how he chose to do this kind of character. it's my first time seeing him act, and it wasn't that bad or that good but i was happy enough to…
